1955 September calendar

TN Thomson is a signature used by Jerry Thompson, who was during several years the assistant of Earl Mac Pherson in his studio in California. He worked besides other to illustrate the advertisements for big brands. He replaced his employer during his convalescence (polio) at the end of 1951 and offered his first Artist's Sketch Pad for the Shaw-Barton calendar company, he thus became the rival of Mac Pherson.
If in the beginning he is inspired for pin ups by his ex-employer, he goes progressively away using the gouache. While the 60's approach, his production becomes inconsistent, certain pin ups, by their processing "strip cartoon" are worthier of figuring on the first page of a cheap erotic magazine more than to illustrate a calendar, the support could also be better : The calendar's format is smaller and the paper of medium quality. For the best part of his production his paintings are very successful.
