The brand with cormorant was created in 1902 by
J W Packard. There was no need to create its upper class reputation. The 1942
models were continued after the war, their successful line turned out well and
the Packard sales widely stayed in the head of luxury brands, well ahead of
Cadillac.
The new models are presented for the year 1947. The pontoon line is too heavy,
its detractors call it "a pregnant whale". Even so, the sales are
always good but in 1948 Général Motors with a big investing without
counting introduces Cadillac with superb lines which is in the following year
equipped by a V8 engine with rocket arms. Packard has no way to fight and one
should wait until 1955 to get a Packard equipped as well by a V8 engine, but
it is too late
In 1954, Packard merges with Studebaker, but despite the technical refinement
( electrical back suspension), the 1957 models will only be modified Studebakers
and the brand is liquidated in 1958
