The brand NASH was founded in 1917 by Charles W.
Nash who left Général Motors where he had been the president.
The brand merged in 1936 with Kelvinator, a household appliance brand (besides
the other), which helped to pass the 30ies safely, even the results showing
a deficit for the cars.
Before the war, Nash were the quality cars, but rather conventional, as their
customers
The revival comes in 1949 with Airflyte, the models extremely innovative, with
carefully prepared aerodynamic, whose the opponents call "reversed bathtub".
The style is a bit disconcerting for the customers, but the cars are well sold,
as all the cars of this epoch. But as Hudson, another independent constructor,
Nash will follow with difficulties the rhythm imposed by the big brands. The
new modern V8 engine, the body changed all the three or four years requires
resources which are not firm Besides the fact that the self-supporting
body which has a lot of advantages doesn't allow important changes of the body.
As all the independent constructors, it's the second half of the 50ies when
the sales curve bends inexorably. The model Rambler will save the brand, it's
the first american "compact car" and it meets a certain success. The
other models continue to degrade in the style and turnover.
In 1955 Nash merges with Hudson to found the group AMC. The brand Nash is suppressed
in 1958.
