Born in 1939 to complete the range of Ford group, Mercury meets immediately a success. The brand will borrow some mechanical pieces or bodies from Ford and Lincoln. In 1949 new post-war models appear and this time that are the bodies of Lincoln which are used, this model became a classical custom.
The face-lift occurs in the 1952 model year with a very modern line : round forms are terminated, the way is made for tight lines !!
For the year 1955, the bodies are completely redesigned, with a big aggressive front and more generous dimensions.
In 1957, Mercury lets itself go !! It proposes during three years the models completely mad !!
From 1960, the windings are completely atrophied, the bodies more squared, it's the years of 60ies and Mercury comes back to rejoin the higher class… The brand will propose its muscle car : The Cyclone GT as well as a variant of Munstang : The Cougar which will become from 1971 a big coupé equivalent to the Thunderbird of Ford.
