Originally, Impérial was a luxury version of the reduced production of Chrysler models for very well-to-do clients. Following the example of Ford with its Continentale it was a prestigious model to compete Cadillac.
In 1955, Impérial becomes a fully independent brand and the models will no more use the bodies of Chrysler from 1957. Imperial will never disquiet Cadillac in the luxury market niche, even Lincoln will always be greatly ahead of Impérial. One has to admit that their design will never struck the minds even if some years of manufacture doesn't miss the originality ! !
