The brand Chrysler was founded by W P Chrysler in 1924. It managed to pass the big depression in 1929 and to impose itself between the biggest brands.
In 1934 the models Air-Flow were presented in public. It was an american equivalent of the front-wheel drive model by Citroen in Europe : Many mechanic and body design novelties. The line had been studied in the wind tunnel. It gives the original aspect for the epoch.
Unfortunately for the brand, the public doesn't like it, it finds it ugly. It's a bitter breakdown which will restrict the Chrysler group during many years into a very conventional style. Even if we can reproach to Airflow some heaviness of the radiator grille, more objectively, the error of the group was to introduce a good model too early. As the other brands of the group, the awakening came in 1955 thanks to the talent of the group design executive manager : Virgil Exnert. The Chryslers will even be reputed as a sport cars with the "300", the first serial car to reach 300 HP. The cars are superb and from 1957 they got splendid, always holding the road much better than the competitors. Until 1962 the cars are really original but it is no more the value of sale… The new models proposed from 1962 to 1972 are the most beautiful sedans of this epoch (in my opinion…)
