The brand CHEVROLET was created in 1912 by WC Durant. It took the name of a race driver, Luis Chevrolet, who was charged to organise the development of the first Chevrolet. If the beginnings were difficult, the brand held the head of the car sales in the U.S.
The popular brand - son principal competitor Ford - will always dog its footsteps.
The first new models after the war are presented to journalists in 1949 and one must wait until 1955 to find a brand's new body and the first V8 engine with rocker arms at the same time.
These cars became classical and they are the most searched objects of collection of ancient americans, nicknamed "Tri-Chevy".
In 1960 the brand proposes an original compact : The Corvair which is not successful. From the 60ies, the range was quite huge: from a large sedan very close to high class (except of finishing) to the compact cars which pass from the sport to utility vehicle. By the produced quantities, Chevrolet will always be very cost effective to General-Motors, which will not hesitate to recover some elements to use them for the other brands.
The Corvette, even if it doesn't represent a big financial profit, will bring a lot in the meaning of image, but the Camaro, despite its success, will never dethrone the Ford's Mustang.
